Shrooming

You can tell it has been raining lately, mushrooms are everywhere. I was taking Sophia on a walk and they were all around in the woods. I will not be eating any of these, but I am sure some others are OK. It's time to get Ken the master mushroomer over to check if some I saw where chanterelles or not.

Sunrise in Aptos

We had a beautiful sunrise in Aptos today. Just a few Cumulus clouds. However later in the day they turned into cumulonimbus which resulted in our stormy weather today. That was OK by me, as I was setting up the new iMac that we got earlier in the week.

Nicaragua invades Costa Rica?

Yes, Nicaragua invaded Costa Rica last week. That's what you get for thinking everything on the Web is true. Nicaraguan troops used Google Maps to determine a flag of Costa Rica was flying in their country. Never believe everything you read. The flag was in Costa Rica, and Nicaraguans removed it. Uh Oh!

The funny thing is, Nicaragua wants to blame Google Maps. What? How about double and triple checking before you invade another country. Sound familiar?

When we were in Costa Rica in January for Elaine's birthday, we used a GPS to get around. Halina, the GPS with a woman's voice, constantly was getting us misdirected. A good old fashined map seemed to work quite well. Here's the article.

Beach Day

It was a gorgeous day yesterday, and the wind was howling. Down at Rio Del Mar flats the kitesurfers were at it. I saw them driving home and took Sophia for a run on the beach. There was only a few other people and their dogs, but quite a few birds. Probably too windy for their taste.
Sophia ran her self silly. On the way back up the beach she walked. The birds were safe.
Sophia, running as always.

Be very, very careful!

It's that time of year again. People are trying to force you to eat your vegetables. This can be much more heinous then the picture on the left shows, someone giving away zucchini. The dreaded zucchini can be left on your doorstep by a neighbor secretly without you knowing of it. The worst kind are the zucchini that are 2 to 3 feet long, their only purpose.... well I don't know what it is, maybe a wimpy bat.

I think people should have to get a license to grow zucchini. You should go to adult education gardening and receive your certificate. No zucchini should be grown over 4 to 6 inches. Yes, I know, all our mothers used to stuff the gargantuan summer squash with Hamburger Helper, or something of that sort. They should have just given us a burger and be done with it.

I have known people to re-gift the zucchini they get from their neighbors, but this can back fire on you. If you are caught doing it, people will think you are the neighborhood zucchini-radical. You will be shunned and disparaged. Hmmm....maybe that's not such a bad idea.

First post on Blogger!

blogofftabacco

Well here is the first post on Blogger. I will get this going soon when the website is up and running again. The background picture and the picture to the right is off Tobacco Key in Belize. The boat we had chartered was a Bahia 46 catamaran. We had 10 people on board and no one was crowded. 4 couples and 2 teenagers. There were 4 berths and 4 heads.  The girls slept in the bunks up in the front of the hulls, that had access through a deck hatch. We were on the boat for a week, and then spent another week at a resort. A Great trip for all.
