Surfing Catamaran

This captain could not wait to get into the harbor. I remember coming back into Santa Cruz Harbor in my trimaran Tantrum when the harbor mouth was breaking, but not as fast as this. It was a fun ride. Matt and Jesse were along as we surfed in the entrance.

Surfboads, Surfboads, and more Surfboards.

Saturday, we went the the Sacred Craft Expo. It  was an exposition on surfing and equipment. It was busy for a rainy Santa Cruz day, especially since we had some surf hitting the coast. Every booth Elaine and I stopped at had great people working. They were helpful and very friendly. Elaine picked up some jewelry while I got some pointers from Malcolm of Schweizersurf.com on building a wooden surfboard. Malcolm's background was building wooden kayaks and now he has added wooden surfboards. He built a special Robert August wooden surf board with abalone inlay, you can see it here. The boards pictured above are from Kana surfboards, no, they are not related to me. Though I am going to build my first surfboard very soon. It will be faster and easier than the wooden canoe I built about 15 years ago.

Storm Clears in Santa Cruz

A small rainstorm blew through last night and early this morning. I was driving along East Cliff and stopped next to Jack O'Neills house along Pleasure Point and took this shot after the weather was beginning to clear.

Valentine's Day

I cooked pan roasted lobster for Valentine's Day for Elaine and me. We had a gift certificate for Phil's Fish Market, so the lobster only cost $11. I would have picked it up anyway. I modified a recipe from Jasper White's cookbook, Lobster at Home . I substituted different herbs to finish the sauce. It turned out great.
